Veterum Beginner Guide
Starting fresh in Veterum means learning how recruiting, campaigning, and recovery fit together. These early steps set up a strong run for the Gatekeepers without wasting gold or morale.
Learn the Campaign Loop
Every run in Veterum moves between recruiting units, fighting battles, and recovering. Understanding this loop early keeps your army effective instead of stuck with wounded, tired soldiers.
Spend Early Gold on Units
Gold is tight at the start. Recruit a few dependable units before saving, because a fuller roster makes early contracts and story quests far safer.
Watch Morale and Fatigue
Units that fight nonstop grow tired, and tired units miss more attacks and break faster. Rotate soldiers and rest between battles to keep the whole company combat-ready.
Choose Battles You Can Win
The open world lets you pick your fights. Take quests that match your roster size, and avoid stacking multiple dangerous missions while your army is still growing.
Quick Tips
- Veterum rewards careful planning over reckless offense — check enemy positions before you commit.
- City prosperity affects which contracts show up, so protecting towns pays off later.
- Interactive terrain works both ways — use it before an enemy does.
- A small, well-equipped company beats a large, unprepared one in most early battles.
Veterum Combat Guide
Battles in Veterum are decided by positioning and stamina as much as raw strength. Master the hex grid, morale, and the environment to win fights that look unwinnable.
Every battle plays out on a hex grid where facing matters. Striking an enemy from the side or behind is far more effective than a frontal clash.
Units lose morale as allies fall and fatigue builds each turn of hard fighting. Broken units flee and exhausted units miss — time your assaults for when enemies are worn down.
Vision and light change what your units can accurately hit. Fighting at night or in the open without cover puts you at a real disadvantage.
Rain, weather, and interactive ground reshape every battle. Push enemies into bad ground and keep your own lines on high, dry footing.
Veterum Units Guide
Your company in Veterum is a mix of races and roles, from shield-wall dwarves to skirmishing Elvers. Knowing what each unit type does best makes recruiting and battle setup much easier.
Human Soldiers
Humans are the dependable backbone of the Gatekeepers, with balanced stats that let them hold lines or fill gaps anywhere in the formation.
Dwarf Warriors
Dwarves soak damage on the front line. Put them where the fighting is thickest and let their durability cover frailer allies.
Elver Skirmishers
Elvers excel at ranged attacks and repositioning. Keep them behind the line so their shots land without exposing them to melee.
Turans
Turans hit hard in close combat. Use them to break enemy formations once your front line has locked the enemy in place.
Casters and Healers
Caster units turn battles with spells and healing. Protect them — losing your support units mid-fight often decides the outcome.
Mercenary Recruits
Mercenaries fill roster gaps quickly when you need more bodies. They cost gold every campaign, so weigh their pay against what they add.
Veterum Builds Guide
A good Veterum build is about commitment: push a unit's attributes, talents, and artifacts in one direction instead of spreading points everywhere. These four foundations cover most companies.
Frontline Bruiser
Melee BuildStack strength and durability, pick talents that reward close combat, and give this unit artifacts that keep them standing through long fights.
Ranged Marksman
Ranged BuildInvest in accuracy and vision-related talents so this unit controls the battlefield from safety and punishes enemies caught in the open.
Support Caster
Caster BuildFocus on spell power and efficiency. A dedicated healer or offensive caster multiplies the value of every other unit around them.
Versatile Captain
Leader BuildA captain build spreads points into morale support and survivability, keeping nearby units fighting longer instead of breaking and running.
Build Planning Tips
- Commit each unit to a single role — hybrids pay for versatility with weakness in both areas.
- Pick talents that reinforce what a unit already does well, not what it lacks.
- Save strong artifacts for the units that survive longest; a dead carrier wastes the slot.
- Build your company as a set — a frontline, damage, and support trio covers almost every quest.
Veterum Quests Guide
Quests in Veterum come from the story, from city contracts, and from the open world itself. Knowing where each type comes from helps you plan campaigns instead of stumbling into them.
Story Quests
Main CampaignThe main campaign follows the last army of the Order of the Gatekeepers as they push back the coming chaos. Story quests advance that fight and unlock new regions.
City Contracts
Side ContractsTowns post contracts for gold and rewards. Contracts are the most reliable income source between story missions.
Random Events
Open WorldThe open world is full of random encounters and events. Some are opportunities, some are ambushes — scouting ahead keeps surprises survivable.
Prosperity Missions
City ManagementA city's prosperity level shapes the quests it offers. Defending and supporting towns raises prosperity, which in turn generates better contracts.
Veterum Artifacts Guide
Artifacts and consumables in Veterum are force multipliers. Knowing what to carry, what to equip, and what to sell keeps your company strong through long campaigns.
Combat Artifacts
Offensive artifacts boost damage and hit chance. Equip them on your main damage dealers to break enemy lines faster.
Defensive Artifacts
Defensive artifacts add armor and survivability. They shine on frontline units who absorb hits every single battle.
Utility Artifacts
Utility artifacts improve movement, vision, and other non-combat edges. Small bonuses that add up over a long campaign.
Potions and Consumables
Potions heal, restore fatigue, and swing desperate battles. Keep a stock before long missions — running dry mid-campaign is painful.
Rare Relics
Rare relics are the most powerful items in Veterum. They come from deep exploration and tough quests, so watch for leads while traveling.
Equipment Strategy
Match every artifact to the unit that benefits most. Re-check loadouts after each new recruit — old gear sitting in storage helps nobody.
